Interpreting Disease by Species Insights

Interpreting Disease by Species Insights

Understanding where and how disease is spreading is key to staying ahead of crop threats. The Disease by Species insight in the Taranis platform gives you a detailed, field-level view of what’s happening on the ground—identifying not just if disease is present, but what kind, where, and how severe. Quickly sort, filter, and zoom in on the most critical issues to prioritize scouting and treatment.

This insight works hand-in-hand with the Threat Trends widget on the Home tab of the Web App, which highlights the most widespread and prevalent threats across the region. While Threat Trends provides a broader, county-level view over time, Disease by Species lets you drill down into individual fields and disease species for immediate, actionable insight. Read more about Threat Trends here.

Below is a step-by-step walkthrough to help you make the most of Disease by Species Insights and translate detection into smarter decisions in the field.
  1. Log in to the Taranis Web App.
  1. Upon login, the platform will default to the Recent Insights tab, displaying the latest field-level findings available for review.

  1. Use the built-in sorting and filtering options to quickly zero in on the fields that need attention most.
  2. Sort by Crop Type
    1. Select any crop from the customer’s portfolio—such as corn or soybeans —to tailor the insights view to that specific crop and focus your review.

  1. Use Severity Filters
    1. Click on the color-coded severity bars to highlight only the fields with higher disease pressure.

  1. Filter by Specific Disease
    1. Check the box next to a particular disease—such as Tar Spot or Northern Corn Leaf Blight—to view only fields where that disease has been detected.
    2. Once filters are applied, fields will update automatically based on the selected criteria.

  1. Click the arrow icon next to the Disease column header to sort insights from most to least severe (or vice versa).

  1. Click on a field tile to view the detailed Disease Insight for that specific field.

  1. The Map View displays red dots representing images that match the disease filters previously selected.
  2. Select the heatmap icon to visualize disease pressure across the field, along with a histogram showing affected versus unaffected areas.
  1. Scroll down in the Map View to see the specific species of disease detected during the mission.

  1. To view leaf-level images, click on any red dot on the map to open the corresponding high-resolution image for closer inspection of disease symptoms.

By combining advanced imagery with intuitive sorting and filtering tools, the Disease by Species insight empowers advisors and growers to make faster, more informed decisions. Whether pinpointing fields for treatment or tracking how disease pressure shifts over time, this feature brings clarity and confidence to crop protection strategy. Continue exploring the Taranis platform to unlock additional tools that turn insights into action all season long!
